Ghana Tertiary Education Commission Orders Royal Nursing College to Refund Fees for Level 100 & 200 Students

Ghana’s tertiary education regulator, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), has directed Royal Nursing College to refund all fees paid by its Level 100 and Level 200 students, following serious concerns about the institution’s compliance with regulatory standards.

According to a report by TV3 Ghana, the directive was issued on Thursday, March 19, 2026, after an assessment by the Commission raised questions about the college’s accreditation status and its ability to operate approved tertiary health training programmes.

GTEC explained that the decision is aimed at protecting students from the consequences of institutional shortcomings that could compromise the validity of their academic qualifications. The Commission emphasized that students should not suffer due to administrative or regulatory failures.

As part of the directive, the college has been instructed to refund all monies paid by the affected students in full. This move highlights GTEC’s firm stance against non-compliance and its commitment to upholding quality standards within Ghana’s tertiary education sector.

The decision has generated anxiety among students and parents, many of whom are now uncertain about the future of their academic journey. Some students have expressed frustration over the disruption, noting that they invested significant time and financial resources with the expectation of receiving recognized nursing training.

Although specific details of the violations have not been fully disclosed, education analysts believe the action reflects a broader effort by GTEC to strengthen oversight and ensure that institutions meet strict accreditation and quality assurance requirements.

Management of Royal Nursing College is yet to provide a detailed public response, but the directive places immediate pressure on the institution to comply and address the regulatory concerns.

GTEC has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s higher education system. It also advised prospective students to verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling to avoid similar situations.

As the situation develops, attention will focus on how quickly refunds are processed and what support mechanisms will be put in place to help affected students continue their education without further disruption.
