WAEC releases 2026 first series computer-based WASSCE results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 first series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.

The computer-based examination was conducted across Nigeria from January 28 to February 14, 2026, with a total of 10,480 candidates—including persons with special needs—participating at 166 centers nationwide.

Out of this number, 3,429 candidates, representing 32.72 percent, obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English language and mathematics. Of the successful candidates, 1,847 (53.86 per cent) were males, while 1,582 (46.14 per cent) were females.

The Head of National Office of WAEC Nigeria, Amos Dangut, announced the release in a statement issued by the council’s spokesperson, Moyosola Adesina.

According to Dangut, 8,418 candidates (80.32 per cent) have had their results fully processed and released, while 2,062 candidates (19.68 per cent) still have some subjects being processed due to errors linked to their entries. He noted that efforts are ongoing to resolve these issues.

He further disclosed that the results of 75 candidates (0.72 percent) have been withheld over alleged examination malpractice. Investigations are underway, and final decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates after review by the appropriate committee.

Candidates have been advised to check their results via the WAEC results portal and access their digital certificates online. Those who require hard copies will need to apply through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal.

Dangut also expressed appreciation to government agencies, security personnel, examiners, and other stakeholders for their support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination, reaffirming WAEC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its assessments.
