Declaration of Friday, 1st May, 2026, as a Statutory Public Holiday—Interior Minister
The Minister for the Interior has officially declared Friday, 1st May 2026, as a statutory public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Workers’ Day celebrations.
In a statement issued on Monday, 27th April 2026, in Accra, the Ministry announced that the day is to be observed nationwide.
“Friday, 1st May 2026, marks Workers’ Day (May Day), which is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement indicated.
Workers’ Day, commonly referred to as May Day, is observed annually to honour the vital contributions of workers to national growth and development.
The Ministry has therefore urged the general public to take note of the holiday and observe it accordingly.
