Fire Police Training Launched to Strengthen Discipline and Operational Efficiency

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has officially launched a specialised Fire Police “Train the Trainer” course at the Fire Academy and Training School (FATS) in Jamestown. The programme is designed to enhance discipline and improve operational efficiency within the Service.

The opening ceremony, held on Monday, April 20, 2026, brought together senior fire officers, personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces Military Police Unit, instructors, trainees, and invited guests.

The Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, who served as Guest of Honour, officially declared the course open. She reaffirmed management’s commitment to repositioning the Fire Police Unit as a more effective support arm of the Service.

She emphasised the increasing need to equip Fire Police personnel with modern security and protective skills to better support firefighting operations and maintain order at emergency scenes. According to her, the training forms part of broader efforts to boost professionalism, discipline, and safety across the Service.

Also addressing participants, Jacqueline Dela Galley, Commanding Officer of the Ghana Military Police, praised the collaboration between the two institutions, noting that it would significantly enhance personnel capacity.

She explained that trainees would receive instruction in key areas such as basic policing, intelligence gathering, VIP protection, report writing, and professional conduct.

The three-week programme, facilitated by instructors from the Military Police, is expected to prepare participants to serve as trainers within their respective regions and commands.

The initiative ultimately aims to strengthen the readiness of the Fire Police Unit to effectively support emergency operations nationwide.
