Upper East Region: Four Arrested Over Killing of Zebilla Couple
The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects, including a juvenile, in connection with the murder of a couple at Kusanaba in the Zebilla District of the Upper East Region.
According to a statement issued by the command on Monday, June 22, 2026, the suspects — identified as Safianu Salam, Awal Salam, and Jawal Salam, along with a juvenile whose identity has been withheld — were apprehended on June 19, 2026, at a hideout in Kugre near Garu.
Police investigations revealed that the victims, Apam Azubilla, 45, and his wife, Apam Anomsigna, 35, were attacked and shot in their room at Kusanaba on the night of June 10, 2026.
Preliminary findings indicate that four armed men forcefully entered the couple’s room and opened fire on them. Despite suffering gunshot wounds, Azubilla reportedly managed to call for help.
His brother, Ayubugre Apam, who responded to the distress call, rushed to the room and discovered the couple lying on the floor with severe injuries.
The victims were immediately rushed for medical attention. Anomsigna was pronounced dead on arrival at the Zegoyire Health Centre, while Azubilla, who was later referred to the Zebilla District Hospital for further treatment, also succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.
A medical examination confirmed that both victims died as a result of gunshot wounds.
The police further disclosed that the family later handed over three spent AK-47 ammunition shells recovered from the crime scene to aid ongoing investigations.
The four suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court to face the law.
