More than 3,000 former National Service Personnel have expressed interest in undergoing basic military training scheduled to begin in December 2026, highlighting growing enthusiasm among young Ghanaians to acquire military skills and explore opportunities in the security sector.
The Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Ruth Dela Seddoh, disclosed that the Authority had already received over 3,000 applications from former national service personnel seeking to participate in the four-week training programme.
According to her, the overwhelming response demonstrates the strong interest among young people in military training and the opportunity to develop discipline, physical fitness and other essential skills.
The programme, expected to commence in December 2026, will provide participants with basic military training and exposure to military routines, teamwork, leadership and discipline.
The initiative is expected to bring together selected former national service personnel for an intensive four-week exercise aimed at equipping them with fundamental military skills and experiences.
Meanwhile, the growing number of applications has drawn attention to the selection process, with many prospective participants eager to know how many applicants will eventually be admitted into the programme.
The initiative comes amid growing public discussions about youth development, skills acquisition and opportunities within Ghana's security sector.
