37-year-old teacher in critical condition after being hit by speeding Sprinter bus at Anhwiaso
A motor rider is in critical condition after being knocked down by a speeding Sprinter bus at Anhwiaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region. The victim, 37-year-old Abdullah Osman, is fighting for his life following the collision.
According to the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service at Bibiani, the accident occurred when the driver of the Sprinter bus, with registration number AS 6349-18 and identified as 29-year-old Obed Opoku, was traveling from Sefwi Bekwai towards Kumasi.
Police say that upon reaching the Anhwiaso Clinic Junction, the driver, who was reportedly speeding and failed to exercise due care and attention, crashed into an unregistered Haojin motorcycle.
The victim, a teacher at Queens Senior High School in Anhwiaso, was reportedly attempting to join the main road from the Anhwiaso Clinic direction toward the township when the incident occurred.
He sustained severe injuries and was initially rushed to the Anhwiaso Community Hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for advanced treatment.
An eyewitness, Joseph Nsiah, speaking to 3news, described how the accident happened.
He added that both the Sprinter bus and the motorcycle have since been towed from the scene to ensure the free flow of traffic, while police investigations are ongoing.
